1. The result of this semesters project :  LibraryHotel Haneda
The LibraryHotel in Haneda is a multiuse building, connecting visitors with the locals in Haneda outside of Tokyo. It is situated between the International Airport on one side, and the old fishing village on the other. The building is placed over the canal that runs in between these two areas, and will create a connection with a pedestrian bridge incorporated in the building.
The building consist of two parts; hotel and public libary. The hotel is offering accomodation for airport-passengers in transit. These passengers are guests that wants to get a glimpse of Japan and Tokyo, even though they might only stay for that one night in transit. To bring the city and the culture into the building is therefor essential.
A public library will create a meeting place between the guests and the locals, offering both a feeling of blending in and the possibilty to learn about the culture. A library is a place of storytelling and the guests can bring home a story, even though they didn`t have that much time to experience the «real» Tokyo. The library is providing the hotel with an interesting conference center, and in return the hotel offers restaurants and relaxing areas for the users of the library and its guests. To mix all of this together creates a busy vibe and good entertainment for everyone.
The two programs runs continously through the building on two different ramps. The libraryramp starts on the city side of the canal, and the hotel-ramp starts on the airport side. The ramps goes over the canal two times and ends on the same side as it started. This creates an outer frame for a big open space in the middle of the building over the water. The programs are not directly mixed, but has fast connections with stairs and elevators between the floors, so that it will be easy to go from your room and down to the library. In addition to the pedestrian bridge that connects the two banks of the canal for the public on the lowest floor of the building, there is also an outdoor bridge diagonally over the water, connecting the second floor of the hotel with the second floor of the library.
